Day at Home
I took today to work from home. The main reason is because my mattress was being delivered. Since I was going to be home anyway, it was a good day to have the furnace guy come look at why I had no heat yesterday. Additionally, it was a day out of the office to write my self-evaluation for my performance review tomorrow.
Good god, I hate writing these things. Writing about myself is bad enough. It makes me feel for my boss who has to do something like twelve of these a year, and he has two of them tomorrow.
The mattress guys called me about 9:00 and said that they had made a mistake. My mattress wouldn’t be coming in on the truck from New York until Thursday morning. Well shit, I took the day to be here for the mattress delivery and it got canceled. I thought about heading into the office, but then I realized the furnace guy would be coming. I was going to have the mattress guys come on Saturday, but then I’d have three Pugs to contain while they were here. Instead, they’re coming at 4:00 tomorrow afternoon.
The furnace guy came and said that my furnace was overdue for service anyway, stating that the last time it was serviced was September 2006. My landlord says he was just there in the spring. Anyway, furnace guy says it needs a good cleaning and that he cleaned a valve that was really bad and most likely the cause of my problem. Okay. It’s not on my dime, so that’s cool.
I got the self-evaluation written, too. Have I mentioned how much I hate these things? The deal is what I mail mine to the boss at the end of the day and he does the same, giving us both time to read the other’s evaluation before our discussion of them tomorrow morning. Mine has been sent. I’m sure he will be sending his later this evening. The anticipation is killing me. While I doubt there will be any surprises, it’s like waiting for the results of your annual HIV test. While you’re 99% sure you know what the outcome will be, it’s that 1% chance of a bombshell that bugs the shit out of you.
It was raining and snowing today, so I tried to leave the house as little as possible. I took the trash out early this morning and about fell on the front porch. Wearing Crocs on wet, painted wood is not the smartest idea. I also went to the sharpening place on Canal Street to pick up my knives. Well, my mom’s knives and my chef’s knife. Other than that, I haven’t left the house. In fact, I made lunch by winging it. I had four bell peppers that weren’t exactly the freshest and a few tomatoes. I chopped and roasted those, threw them in the Magic Bullet with some chicken stock and called it lunch.
This is not exactly what I’d call an exciting day.
Three pugs? Your friends pugs are coming over? Thats so cool, pug party at Mikes house! You should get bunny ears for them, see if you can get a picture of them all with bunny ears. Course then they will all poop in your shoes, but hey, its holiday fun!
