Technology Stuff

A couple of weeks ago, I signed up for alerts on Verizon’s site so they’d let me know when FIOS was available in my neighborhood. Today, I got an e-mail from them offering me a great deal on FIOS if I signed up. I was all over it… only for their site to tell me that FIOS wasn’t available in my neighborhood yet. Why the hell would a company offer me a deal on a service that isn’t available yet?  Honestly, I’m not sure I’m going to go with FIOS just yet, but it would give me a way to bargain with Comcast on reducing my cable bill. I’ve read that Comcast will negotiate to keep you as a customer. This could be fun.

On the flipside of that bad technology thing, US Airways impressed me the other day. When I got the airport at 2:00, I used a kiosk to check in. I had a ticket for the 4:00 flight. The kiosk asked me if I wanted to take the 3:00 flight instead of the 4:00 flight at no additional charge. How cool is that? Granted, I had a full-fare ticket, so there is no change fee anyway, and getting me off one of their fullest flights works to the airline’s advantage. Still, it’s cool that the kiosk prompted me for that. After that, it offered me an upgrade for $50. Um…. $50 for a 45 minute flight? No, thank you.

About

My name is Mike Hillwig and I live in Boston with my pug, Reggie. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in January 2003 but have been living with MS for much longer than that. This is where you'll find my story, stories, and my history.

I want this site to be a place where people can read about my experiences with MS. I was fortunate enough to catch it really early and my results on drug therapies have been outstanding. This should be a place where people can realize that they can lead a normal life with MS. MS has changed my life, but it hasn't ended it.
