Yard Work
The past two days, I’ve spent a good deal of time working in the yard. We’re talking about raking, digging, planting, and even getting dirty. Imagine me getting dirt under my fingernails. Yes, it has indeed happened.
In the far corner of the yard, I started a small flower bed. Steve, the owner of the upstairs unit, tells me that they used to have a compost pile there, so the soil is pretty rich. Lets hope my flowers enjoy it.
Additionally, I’ve planted some tomato plants (cherry and roma) next to the house. Steve tells me this is a good spot for the tomatoes since it gets full sunlight here. I bought some fence to keep the dogs away from the veggies, and need to put that up next.
My first batch of parsley in the window boxes is doing exceptionally well.
The second batch, planted last weekend, is looking pretty good, too.
Today, I planted some basil and thyme.
In a few weeks, my herbs should be doing really well. The first batch of parsley already looks awesome. What’s great about these is that if they’re still doing well at summer’s end, I can bring them in the house and use artificial light to grow my herbs year-round.
Jason, Steve, and I have put a lot of work into the back yard this week, and it’s looking so much better. Yesterday, I sprayed the whole back yard with a weed killer that’s also good for growing the grass. Today, I put down a small bag of grass seed to help fill in some areas of the yard that were looking bare. We’re going to keep the dogs out of the yard for a few weeks, and Reggie isn’t going to like that.
Uh oh, no yard time? Poor doggie. My kids and I went to Salem Willows today, SO tacky but they like it as a treat. We saw the two cutest puggies. One was only six months old! They couldnt believe how big Oscar is :( Yeah, time for some more exercise. The flowers look great, I have a big BLACK thumb, I cant grow anything, its amazing the kids are still alive.
